Columbus High School students gather in celebration

About 100 students wearing specially made t-shirts gathered outside Columbus High School this morning to celebrate the decision to reinstate Dr. Marvin Crumbs as principal.
The students stood arm in arm singing and cheering their support of the school board’s 7 to 1 vote to overturn the superintendent’s reassignment.
The Wednesday vote ended a weeklong controversy over Dr. Crumbs’ reassignment.
Kasich Unhurt In Multi-Car Crash Near Columbus

Ohio Gov. John Kasich was involved a minor vehicle accident on Tuesday just outside downtown Columbus, but was uninjured, a spokesman said. Kasich spokesman Rob Nichols said four vehicles were involved, but he called the incident a minor fender bender.
The first-term Republican governor’s doctor was to examine him as a precaution, Nichols said. Two administration staff members, a JobsOhio employee and the state trooper driving the vehicle also were not hurt.
Columbus man faces drug trafficking charges

A resident’s watchful eye and two diligent police officers led to the arrest Tuesday of a suspect accused of drug trafficking who also was arrested back in February during a two-day drug sweep.
Shawn D. Agee, 43, of Columbus, was arraigned Wednesday on misdemeanor charges of possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia and felony charges of aggravated possession of drugs, trafficking in cocaine and possession of cocaine. He is in Fairfield County Jail on a $500,000 cash or surety bond.
Columbus Soldier Dies In Afghanistan

A Central Ohio soldier died in Afghanistan this week. According to the Department of Defense, Staff Sgt. Christopher L. Brown, 26, of Columbus, died April 3, in Kunar province, Afghanistan.
He died of wounds sustained after he was attacked with an improvised explosive device while on a dismounted patrol. Brown was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 12th Infantry Regiment, 4th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, Fort Carson, Colo.
Columbus Blue Jackets beat Detroit Red Wings

The Red Wings knew they would face a much tougher version of the Columbus Blue Jackets after Detroit routed them Monday at home. They were right, and weren’t up for the challenge.
Allen York stopped 29 shots and earned his first NHL victory in an emergency start, and the Blue Jackets beat the Red Wings 4-2 on Wednesday.
Zoo staff begins medical testing of 5 creatures

Veterinarians from an Ohio zoo are performing medical tests on the five exotic animals held there since their suicidal owner released them in October.
The Columbus zoo began caring for three leopards, two primates and a bear after their owner released dozens of animals that had to be killed by authorities near Zanesville. One leopard was euthanized after being struck by a door lowering between two enclosures.
Man stabs four people at college in Columbus, Ohio

A knife-wielding man stabbed four people at a college in downtown Columbus, Ohio, on Wednesday, critically wounding three of them before a police officer shot and wounded the attacker, a police spokesman said.
Columbus police spokesman Sergeant Rich Weiner told reporters three knives were found at the scene of the attacks, one inside the building and two outside. His remarks were broadcast on the website of Columbus television station WBNS.
Columbus Zoo opposes mascot exemption

Officials at the Columbus Zoo are taking issue with an exemption in an Ohio bill that would allow a school to display a dangerous wild animal as a sports mascot. The exemption is part of a proposal introduced on Thursday to regulate exotic animals in the state.
The zoo’s chief operating officer says the facility supports the legislation overall, but not the exemption. Tom Stalf also praised the bill’s perimeter fencing requirements. He says the rule could have helped keep dozens of animals in Zanesville contained after their suicidal owner freed them from their cages in October.
CCS’ Plans To Renovate School Building On Hold

The historic Indianola Middle school sits empty now ,but it was scheduled to be renovated into a building the district could use. Anthony Udeagbala was the architect hired to renovate Indianola the school into a Spanish and French immersion school for the Columbus city school district.
He was fired from the project last night at the board meeting.
Murder suspect Leo DeAndre Scott shoots

Columbus police say murder suspect Leo DeAndre Scott took his own life this morning after police tried to take him into custody at the Lemon Tree apartments at 54th Street and Thomason Avenue. Police have been searching for weeks for Scott, 25, who is wanted in connection with the January fatal shooting in Port Royal, S.C., of Columbus native Velencia Compton. Authorities said he killed the woman and fled South Carolina with their 3-year-old son Jayden.
Police went to the apartment, knocked and were able to get two women out of the apartment. One of the women identified Scott from a photograph.
